Nico Ward Muñoz Wins Enduroman Olympic Triathlon

Local hero, good friend and Sands Beach Resort sponsored athlete, Nico Ward came romping home in an overall time of 1:49:18 on Sunday in the Enduroman Olympic Triathlon competition to notch up his first win of the season.

Originally from Derby in the UK, Nico moved to Lanzarote with his family when he was just 10 years old and he began his professional triathlete career in 2008. A hard worker whose commitment to his training regime is unfaltering, Nico trains at Sands Beach Resort for much of the year and is a well known face and popular character around the resort.

Nico wasn’t the first man out of the water, coming in with a time of 9:25 but his superb bike ride in a hair raising 1:04:28 and his excellent run in 35:26 brought him to first place with a cool hair’s breadth of a margin over second placed José Miguel Peréz Martínez with a time of 1:49:19. In third place was Uxio Abuin with an overall time of 1:49:38 .

Many, many congratulations, Nico, and here’s to more victories in 2012. We have our eye on that Ironman Lanzarote 2012 podium with you on it :)
